Known as the “Homeland of Cashews”, with its azure skies, fluffy white clouds, and sandy seashores, these are the defining traits of this coastal city. Today, join us as we step inside the main venue of the Chengdu International Horticultural Expo - the Mozambique Maputo Garden.
Mozambique, nestled in the southeastern part of Africa, while Maputo gracing the southernmost edge of its territory, serves as the political and economic epicenter of the nation. In March 2018, Chengdu forged a friendly city relationship with Maputo.
Maputo's architectural landmarks predominantly reflect Portuguese influences, and its landscapes are adorned with numerous iconic monuments. The garden's botanical arrangements are a testament to the local essence, characterized by exuberant and harmonious color palettes.
The design of the Mozambique Maputo Garden masterfully incorporates elements from the “Capulana” tradition, embracing its compositional style, geometric patterns, floral motifs, and the ebb and flow of ocean waves. Through this design, it passionately and authentically captures the spirited essence of this South African coastal gem.
On the flat plan of the reception area, indigenous African flora, adorned with ethnic and vibrant colors, is cultivated to resemble ocean waves. Along the vertical surfaces, flower pergolas take the shape of undulating waves, creating a captivating sense of depth and showcasing the distinctiveness of Maputo, a coastal city.
The heart of the landscape design draws inspiration from Maputo's iconic landmarks, transformed into accessible architectural marvels. The upper sections of these structures elegantly incorporate lightweight glass materials.
A connecting pathway, featuring significant milestones in Maputo's history, forms the Mozambique Memory Avenue, enriching the overall landscape with unique character.
Visitors can bask in the beauty of Maputo's commemorative landmarks and the enchanting meadows of blossoms in the tranquil rest areas.
In terms of botanical composition, the Mozambique Maputo Garden carefully selects plants and flowers that echo Mozambique's unique essence and thrive harmoniously in Chengdu's climate. These include Medal Chrysanthemums, Golden Acacias, and other species, artfully interspersed throughout the floral landscape.
