On September 20th, the 1st meeting of the Organizing Committee for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu took place in Beijing. Subsequently, a press conference was convened to update both domestic and international media on the progress of preparations for the exposition, the master plan for the main venue, and the highly anticipated reveal of the emblem, mascot, and flower for the Expo 2024 Chengdu.
An ensemble of emblem, mascot, and floral representation not only adds vibrancy to a grand exhibition but also becomes the radiant emblem of the host city, showcasing its rich ecological heritage and innovative spirit.
Emblem
The emblem, inspired by the outline of a panda's head, seamlessly integrates elements from various plants, including ginkgo, hibiscus, and golden bamboo. This design fully highlights the incredible biodiversity found in the Chengdu region.
Mascot
The mascot for the International Horticultural Exhibition 2024 Chengdu is “Tongmeier.” Its core concept draws inspiration from China's unique relict plant, the Gongtong, and the “Bronze Divine Bird” from the Sanxingdui archaeological site. It symbolizes peace, friendship, inclusivity, and carries profound cultural significance and distinctive Sichuan characteristics.
Official Flower
Following a combination of public voting and expert recommendations, and considering Chengdu's unique botanical diversity, the hibiscus flower, which is also Chengdu's city flower, has been selected as the official flower for the Expo 2024 Chengdu. The hibiscus embodies nobility, determination, unity, and harmony, expressing heartfelt wishes and aspirations for the successful hosting of the Expo 2024 Chengdu.
In 2024, Chengdu will utilize its rich collection of garden plants and horticulture as a medium to elevate the visual appeal and engagement of Expo 2024 Chengdu. The expo will feature a wide range of activities suitable for visitors of all ages. Throughout the event, immersive and experiential programs, including international floral competitions, city-themed days, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions and performances, night tours of the expo, and more, will be organized. These distinctive activities will offer global visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of horticulture and experience the rich culture of Sichuan.
