With the scorching heat of summer season just around the nook, Chengdu ushered in the best lotus viewing period in late June. On the evening of June 21, the 2023 Chengdu Lotus Festival, one of the highlights of the 2023 Sichuan Flower (Fruit) Ecotourism Festival, kicked off at the People’s Park in downtown Chengdu, the main venue for the citywide event, which will last till August 8.

       Flowers bloom luxuriantly all the year round here in Chengdu. Over the recent years, the city has been enjoying increasingly prosperity in the horticulture and landscaping industries. Next year, during the 2024 Chengdu International Horticultural Exhibition, a lot more beautiful flower landscapes will be seen throughout the park city.

       Quite different from the previous editions, the opening ceremony of this year’s lotus festival was presented in the form of a large-scale immersive creative stage drama. With an attractive and elaborate storyline, the show, from the perspective of a tourist named Lotus, displays the richness and uniqueness of Chengdu’s traditional culture and modern civilization.

       7 sub-venues and 21 lotus viewing locations, with an estimated area totaling nearly 667 hectares, have been set across the city during the event.

       An e-map of lotus viewing locations in Chengdu in 2023 was released at the opening ceremony. It also offers information on traffic, restaurants and places to visit in and around the sites.

       In addition, 7 featured landscapes with different themes were created inside the People’s Park, and a series of theme programs and activities will be staged here on July 1-2.
