In anticipation of the 31st Chengdu World University Summer Games, we are using flowers and plants as a medium, and landscapes as a backdrop to enhance the youthful essence of our park city. On June 30, 2023, under the guidance of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, the event was jointly organized by Beijing Forestry University, Chengdu Park City Construction and Management Bureau, Longquanyi District People's Government of Chengdu, National Innovation Alliance for Landscape Plants and Human Habitation Ecological Environment Construction, and the Professional Committee of Landscape Plants and Ancient Trees of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture. The award ceremony, titled 'Blooming Full of the Jinguan Town, Blooming in the Youth Season' was held in a grand manner at Yimahe Park (Phase 2) in Longquanyi District.
Distinguished guests attending the award ceremony included Zhou Ling, Member of the Party Group and Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu Park City Construction and Management Bureau, Zhao Weiran, Member of the Party Group of Longquanyi District People's Government of Chengdu, as well as experts such as Jin Hexian, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, President and Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Gardens magazine, Professor at Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University, and Dong Li, Professor of the School of Landscape Architecture at Beijing Forestry University and Director of the National Innovation Alliance for Landscape Plants and Human Habitation Ecological Environment Construction, Vice Chairman of the Professional Committee of Landscape Plants of the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, among others.
Following the award ceremony, industry leaders and experts engaged in discussions and shared their insights on the significance of creating flower landscape scenery for the harmonious integration of mountains, rivers, people, and cities in the park city. They offered valuable suggestions for the construction and implementation of the demonstration zone, embodying the new development philosophy of a park city.
The flower landscape event consisted of two stages: the "Design Collection and Selection" and the "Construction and Implementation Selection". The event attracted the participation of outstanding landscape students from universities nationwide. Since the announcement was made, it has garnered widespread attention and ignited the creative and practical enthusiasm of numerous landscape students. A total of 449 valid entries were received from 105 higher education institutions and colleges across the country, with a participation of 1,082 individuals. After undergoing multiple rounds of evaluation by industry experts, 39 winning works were selected, showcasing the vibrant spirit of Chengdu City and the essence of the Universiade. The winning works included 4 gold awards, 6 silver awards, 10 excellent awards, and 19 finalists.
During the design and creation process of the flower landscape works, landscape students centered their efforts around the theme of "Youthful Leap, Grace Flowers in a New Realm". They extensively explored Chengdu's characteristic native plant materials, showcasing the cultural heritage and innovation of the region. Guided by the principles of ecological construction, they designed near-natural flower landscapes that are green, low-carbon, and sustainable. The resulting works radiate the dynamic energy and growth potential of university students, presenting a harmonious and layered composition, natural flow, and a vibrant array of colors. These flower landscape works inject a refreshing and green vitality into the upcoming Chengdu Universiade.
